Which Countries Play Cricket?

You may have heard of cricket in recent years. If you live in a country where the game is often played, you may have played some cricket matches yourself. Cricket fans enjoy playing well, and spectators are thrilled to see them play. Very few people actually know the facts of cricket. The game of cricket has a long history, and it evolved many times before it is today.

A brief history of cricket

Who actually invented cricket is still being debated. Some say that Prince Edward, the son of Edward I, played a form of cricket called Craig in 1301 in Newington, Kent. However, there is no real evidence that faith and cricket are the same. As a matter of fact, very little was recorded about the account of this particular faith. Certain evidence of cricket can be found in an inscription referring to a game played in 1598.

During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, cricket underwent many developments. Earlier, the game was played like hockey and sticks were used. As cricket evolved, it was played like bowling, with players placing the balls in front of the batsmen. Later in the eighteenth century, hockey sticks were replaced by a kind of club. Now, the game is played almost like baseball using the original straight bats, and the game is played in innings. Some elements of bowling still remain, such as those who pitch balls are still called bowlers.

The purpose of the game

The purpose of the game is very simple. In order for one team to win, that team must score more runs than the other. The opposition must also be dismissed. When this standard is met, the team is a winner.

The number of innings played varies by match. Two umpires control the game, and scorers keep on scoring based on the signals given by the umpires. Examples of gestures to watch are that if a batsman is out, the umpire will raise his finger and if the batsman hits six balls, both arms will be placed over his head. The rules of cricket state that scorers must keep a record of all runs scored in the game.

Where is cricket played?

Cricket is not actually an Olympic sport, although it is played between countries where the sport is popular. The first international cricket match was played between Canada and the United States. However, no nation has ever been considered a Test nation. The first Test match was between Australia and England. Later nations included India, New Zealand, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh. South Africa was banned from 1970 to 1992 due to its coloring policy. Cricket is not very popular in most other countries, although groups of people may choose to play the game for fun.
